COLCHAGUA VALLEY WINE TOUR

Our two-day Colchagua tour takes us via the Alto Maipo wine region to the entrance of the Colchagua wine valley. Visit three distinctly different wineries over the course of the first day. After an overnight stay, you’ll enjoy a further three wineries in the valley before returning to Santiago.

DAY ONE

First stop is a family-owned winery recognized both nationally and internationally for consistency and high quality. Visit their uniquely-designed and modern “bodega”, constructed to be in complete harmony with nature. Hear about the key factors that influence their wines. Experience first-hand the difference between American and French oak. Enjoy a tasting of three of their quality wines accompanied with a cheese board.

We then drive to the entrance of the Colchagua Valley to our next winery. You will enjoy an a-la-carte lunch (not included in price) in a beautiful setting with a view over the polo field.

After lunch, you’ll take a short tour of the colonial buildings of this historic winery. Then taste three wines from their Grand Reserve line, the result of their best terroirs.

On our last stop for the day, you’ll meet personally with the owner at a small production “garage” winery. Hear about their concept for “Slow Wine” and enjoy a conversation and glass of wine in a truly relaxing environment.

You’ll then be dropped off at your pre-arranged accommodation (not included in price) for a relaxing evening.

DAY TWO

You’ll be picked up from your hotel for your first winery. Visit an historic winery where you’ll take a tour through the vines in a horse-drawn carriage. See the wine making process and taste a wine in-progress, straight from the tank. Return to the colonial tasting rooms to sample a further 5 wines from their extensive range.

We then head into the Apalta valley, a sub-region of the Colchagua Valley, to the restaurant of a world-renowned Argentinian chef, where you can enjoy a delicious a-la-carte lunch. Located amongst the vines of Viña Montes (No. 4 in World’s Best Vineyards), you can select their wines by the glass, including the premium Purple Angel, or select a bottle from their ample selection. Choose from a range of delicious seasonal dishes featuring local produce cooked over the fire as you take in the beautiful surrounds of the vineyard. *Lunch not included in tour price

After lunch, visit the architecturally amazing facilities of this French-influenced winery, an ultra-premium, organic and bio-dynamic winery. Enjoy a tour through the vines to the majestic winery set in the hill. Start on the rooftop with amazing views over the vineyard and follow the wine making process on its gravitational path, finishing in the incredible barrel room. You’ll then taste two premium wines made in this impressive facility, Clos Apalta and Petit Clos.

You can then relax while you’re transported back to Santiago at the end of an amazing two days.

The first was Santa Rita where we were educated in the process of wine making with the addition of the the history of the independence of Chile. We enjoyed some very nice wines as tastings. Off to Haras Pirque, a smaller boutique winery where we has tastings of their very good wines. Lunch was next at el Manson Toro. This is a traditional restaurant and the food/drink was outstanding. Kylie offered us a third winery which we declined as we were “wined out” so we made our way back to the hotel. Kylie is the the difference between an ok tour and a five * tour. Gracious, knowledgeable and a joy to spend time with. We highly recommend Chile Wine Trails and Kylie as your guide.

Great communication and very varied selection of wineries on our... read more list. Lunch spots were very diverse and delicious too. 					  My wife and I and two friends spent several days in and around Santiago, and as Northern Californians living near our wine country, we had to sample some of the... read more fine wines produced in Chile. Kylie is a warm, vibrant personality who speaks fluent Spanish, along with Aussie English, and she knows her vineyards. Want large wineries?; small boutique wineries?; delightful restaurants out in the country to enjoy spectacular Chilean food (oh, God, and more wine), she has excellent relationships with the local winemakers from Alta Maipo (the Andes foothills), to Casablanca in the Coastal range. This is a wine lovers paradise, and Kylie made it so much fun and totally memorable. She. picked us up at our Santiago Hotel at 9am and got us back to our hotel from our Alto Maipo touring by 4 or 5.  We loved her! Kylie was booked the day we were available to hit the coastal wineries, but went out of her way to arrange to have an associate take us to those wineries, which we combined with a tour of the seaside town of Valparaiso, Kylie coordinated the entire day as well. Valpo is a stunning port city, famous for its hillside murals painted on the sides of houses, walls, stairs in the hills near the central city. A funicular takes you up the hill side to see these UNESCO-protected murals and houses. This was another 9am pick up at our hotel, and we were deposited back around 6pm. What a couple of days! Kylie is knowledgeable, friendly, and definitely knows her wines.... read more Each winery visited was very different, ranging in size from boutique producer to one of the larger premier brands with the tastings showcasing a wide range of styles of Chilean wine. Our tour also included lunch at the Flaherty winery where the food offered was absolutely divine. Only warning – most of the wines are so good you’ll drink all of every glass you’re offered…. A very enjoyable day out!
